Last summer Astronomy Nights
Our last two Astronomy Nights for the summer will both be held at Callaway Gardens, on Monday, August 2 and August 9. As usual, we begin with a brief presentation at 9 p.m., and then, weather permitting, proceed to telescope viewing of the night sky. Admission is free and open to the public.
In the Fall, our Astronomy Nights will shift back to Saturday evenings, with our next night being August 28 at the Space Science Center.
Astronomy Night Sat., July 10 at FDR
We will have an Astronomy Night at FDR State Park on Saturday, July 10, 9 p.m. Our program will include a brief overview of current night-sky objects and (weather permitting) and then viewing of the nighttime sky via our portable telescopes. The program is FREE, but be aware that the state park charges a $5 parking fee per vehicle.
We will be continuing Monday night Astronomy Nights at Callaway Gardens every evening at 9 p.m. through August 9th.
Callaway Astronomy Nights, Comet McNaught
Our Astronomy Nights at Callaway Gardens continue every Monday Night at 9 pm, at Callaway's "Overlook Pavilion". Our next few events will be June 21, June 28, and July 5.
If you're interested in doing a little sky watching on your own, grab a pair of binoculars and head out before dawn to try to get a look at Comet McNaught (C/2009 R1). Sky & Telescope covers the comet, including a timeline of where it will be and a finder's chart. It should be getting brighter right now, and will move out of visibility toward the end of the month, so get it while you can!
